EMCC has a wide range of activities for adults and families, including GED and ESL classes, support groups, recreational outings, community events and excursions, leadership development opportunities, and much more. Programs are weekly, monthly, seasonal and are always evolving to meet the interests and needs of EMCC participants.

Overview Information for Adult and Family Programs
Women’s Support Group/Parenting Classes
Parenting-Class-65 EMCC has an ongoing Women’s Support Group (Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm) that offers regularly scheduled workshops and programs on a variety of personal and family development interests (nutrition, finances, recreation, etc.). Parenting classes are scheduled during the year, usually featuring a particular issue or topic such as parent-child communication, middle school transition issues, positive discipline, and more.
 
GED/ESL
Parenting-Class-65 People seeking a general education diploma and/or learning English as a Second Language can attend EMCC’s GED/ESL class on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-8:00 pm throughout the regular academic year. Taught by MATC Adult Education instructors, GED/ESL prepares people to successfully complete their high school equivalency and become more fluent in English. There is no cost for these classes.
 
Community Garden Program
Garden-65 The Truax Community Garden is located behind EMCC and is available for people interested in gardening. Half size and full size plots are available.
 
Senior Programs
Euchre-Home-65 Every Wednesday night from 5:30-8:00 pm seniors are welcome to attend Senior Euchre at EMCC. The first Wednesday of each month also features a potluck beginning at 5:00 pm. Throughout the year there are special events and programs of interest for seniors (U.W.-sponsored balance clinic, blood pressure check, etc.) offered.
 
Food Pantry and Household Items/Clothing Distribution
Pantry-65 EMCC hosts a food, household items and clothing distribution on the fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 12:00 noon (first come, first served). Pantry parcels include basic staples, specialty/holiday items and a selection of personal care items to choose from (New pantry customers should call ahead for registration information). Household items and clothing are available as are donated throughout the year and include dishes, appliances, furniture, baby and infant supplies, assorted linens and towels, bedding, clothing of all sizes, and more. Donations of clean and gently used household items and clothing are gratefully accepted.
 
Neighborhood Resource Center
computer-lab-65 The NRC program offers adults access to on-line computers, help with employment applications and resume development, assistance with school applications and financial aid information and more. Information and referral for social service programs, recreation and advocacy are also available.
 
Neighborhood Revitalization Efforts
computer-lab-65 EMCC works with other community organizations to provide enriching and engaging citizen opportunities, including the East Isthmus Neighborhoods Planning Council, Grassroots Leadership College, the Truax Neighborhood Association, the United Way and other east side initiatives (beautification, safety, etc.) for resident civic engagement.
 
Computer Lab
computer-lab-65 EMCC’s computer lab includes both PCs and Mac computers for residents needing on-line access to the internet and email. Drop in computer classes are also available for both children and adults.
 
Centerpoints Quarterly Newsletter
computer-lab-65 CENTERPOINTS is the quarterly newsletter of the East Madison Community Center, featuring information about seasonal programs, special events, resident and volunteer milestones and other community information. CENTERPOINTS goes out to over 2500 households in Madison and welcomes both new subscribers and new supporting advertisers.
 
Resident Involvement in Neighborhood Growth (RING)
computer-lab-65 Volunteer involvement at EMCC is enriching, substantive and provides excellent job-skill growth for both youth and adults. People interested in volunteering for a favorite program or activity should contact EMCC staff for volunteer application information.
 
Facility Use for Community Groups
